What Is an Interactive Dashboard, and How Does Cross-Filtering Work?
An interactive dashboard lets you filter the whole board by clicking a chart. Instead of opening a filter panel and rebuilding the question, you click the bar you’re curious about and every other chart answers for that value.
This is called cross-filtering. In Adoptiv a click sends one condition from the chart you clicked: that field equals that value. Click a different bar on the same chart and the new value replaces the old; click the same bar and it goes. Each live condition shows as a filter chip above the board, and a board can hold up to 32 at once.
Every tile listens by default, apart from the tile you clicked, and a tile can be limited to the fields it accepts. Clicks join each tile’s own dashboard filters with AND and never rewrite them, so a tile that counts “either this or that” keeps doing so. A tile that doesn’t hold the kind of record you clicked ignores the condition instead of breaking.
Selections belong to the person making them: two people on the same interactive sales dashboard can click different bars and never see each other’s numbers. To take the value to another board instead of filtering this one, use drill-through. Each tile’s own filter is set with advanced report filters.

What is an interactive dashboard?
A dashboard where clicking one chart filters the others, so you explore the numbers by pointing at them. In Adoptiv, clicking a bar or slice narrows every other tile on the board to that value.
How do I undo a click?
Click the same bar again, or click its chip above the board. Clicking a different bar on the same chart replaces the first selection.
Do all tiles respond to a click?
Every tile listens by default, except the one you clicked. A tile can be set to accept only certain fields, and a tile that doesn’t hold that kind of record ignores the click rather than breaking.
Which charts can I click?
Charts drawn one mark per row, such as bars, columns, slices, funnels, treemaps and points. Gauges and KPI cards show a single number, so there’s nothing in them to click on.
What is cross-filtering?
Clicking a value on one chart to filter the other charts on the same board. It is what makes a dashboard interactive.
Does my click change the board for everyone?
No. Your selections apply to your view only. Two people on the same board can click different bars and each see their own numbers.
Can a click remove a tile’s own filter?
No. Clicks add a temporary condition on top of each tile’s filter and never replace it.
Cross-filtering vs drill-through: what’s the difference?
Cross-filtering keeps you on the board and narrows it. Drill-through takes the value to another board. If a tile has both set up, the jump wins.
