What Is Answering Machine Detection, and How Does Voicemail Drop Work?
Answering machine detection, often called AMD or voicemail detection, decides whether a person or a machine answered an outbound call before a rep is connected. Reps skip voicemail greetings, beeps and phone menus, and only hear people who said hello. It is what lets an auto dialer skip voicemail instead of handing every answering machine to a rep.
In Adoptiv the decision happens on connect, while the line is still held, so nothing is passed to a rep until the answer is classified. A person is put through to a free rep. A machine is either hung up on or gets a voicemail drop: your pre-recorded voicemail, played with no rep on the line.
Those are separate outcomes on the call record. Machine detected and message dropped are stored apart, the call timeline shows each step, and a dropped message has its own call status rather than counting as a failed call. Months later you can tell which voicemails got your message without listening to any of them, and because the decision itself is kept, you can check any call against its audio.
