Widget Studio

Ask the floor a question once. Then show the answer as a chart, a table or a single figure without asking it again, because a change of picture is not another wait while the numbers come back.

Saving a different picture writes the second column. The resolved payload is handed to a different component, no SQL is rebuilt and no aggregate runs twice.

The mechanism

How it works.

01

What kind of answer you are asking for

KPI, categorical, series, scatter, table, gauge and hierarchy. You pick one when the tile is built and never again, and that is what the query goes and gets. Everything argued about afterward is which picture it wears, and a picture never goes back to the database.

02

What you fill in once, for everyone who opens it

Where the numbers come from, how they are totaled, the window they cover, the conditions they have to pass and what they are grouped by. One to eight modules, as many as twenty columns on a table, and eight further measures beyond the first on a series.

03

Tabs go dark where they do not apply

A single-figure card has no dimension, so Shape closes on it and Visualization closes with it. The card-design picker opens for that one alone. Nobody spends five minutes on a setting the tile was never going to read.

04

Rename it, recolor it, but the number stays the number

Widgets are built by the operator and land in workspaces as copies. Your floor can change the picture, the palette, the name, the tooltip and the icon. Eleven other fields answer 403, because those are the ones that would change what the number means.

Where it sits

Two moments in every number.

Every number passes through the same seven. Widget Studio is the lit ones, and everything either side of it is a different page in this category.

8 facts
Shapes
KPI, categorical, series, scatter, table, gauge, hierarchy
Aggregates
Sum, average, count, minimum, maximum. Count alone may run without a field
Measures
One primary, plus eight more on the series shape only
Modules
One to eight. Ones you list but never reference are dropped from the join before the query runs
Rows
Fifty by default, ceiling of a thousand
Workspace edits
Modules, the measure, the extra measures, conditions, dates, the dimension, the kind, the row cap, the gauge target, the cache window and table columns all refuse
Hierarchy
Resolves parents with their children, which is the shape the sunburst, the Sankey and the treemap read
Not the same as
Chart Visuals, which chooses the renderer inside a shape you have already fixed

11 capabilities

Seven data shapes, twenty-two visuals, shareable without a login.

Dashboard Sharing

Hand a board to a team or a CRM role, at read or at edit, by the person who built it. Roles outlive people, which is why a share points at one, not a mailbox.

Cross-Filtering

Click the bar for one queue and the rest of the board goes with it. The next question gets asked by pointing at the answer, and undone by clicking again.

Drill-Through

Some answers will not fit on the board that raised the question. A click leaves carrying the value it stood on, and lands on a board already narrowed to it.

Pivot Tables

Agents down the side, weeks across the top, and the number you care about in every cell. The shape finance asks for when a chart will not settle the argument.

Conditional Formatting

A board on the wall gets read from across the room. Anything under target colors itself as the chart is painted, so a supervisor sees it without stopping.

Reference Lines

The number that was promised, drawn across the same chart as the number that arrived, so the floor reads itself against its target, not yesterday's bars.

Comparison Periods

Nobody has to remember what last week looked like, or dig out the sheet it was written on. The same figure is counted again over the window before it.

Theme Sets

Six palettes, one a print set for the pack that goes in front of a client. Pin one to a tile and the series, axis, grid and tooltip all move together.

Public Links

Send a client the board without giving them a login. The address works until the day you name, dies the moment you revoke it, and leaves a row explaining why.

Embedded Widgets

A figure on the screen where the work happens, not on a board somebody must remember to open. Built once, worked out against the records of whoever opens it.

Call Analytics

How many calls, how many answered, how long they ran, how many missed, counted off the records the switch already wrote. Not a sample or last night's export.
