What Is a Drill Down Dashboard, and How Does Drill-Through Work?
A drill down dashboard lets you click a summary number to reach the detail behind it. You see a bar that looks wrong, click it, and land on the drill down report that explains it, without building that report yourself. The follow-up question gets answered in one click.
Strictly, Adoptiv’s version is drill-through: the click leaves the board you’re on and opens another one. A tile is set up with a destination board and the field there that receives the value. When you click, the value is carried in the link, and the destination reads it before it first draws, so nothing appears unfiltered and then jumps.
The destination is stored as a reference to one board, and Adoptiv opens your workspace’s copy of it, so the value lands where it was meant to, not on whichever board you had open last. Linked dashboards like this keep the summary short: headline numbers up top, with the detail board one click away.
A click goes one place. If a tile also has cross-filtering set up, the jump wins and the board you left stays as it was. Drill-through works from bars, columns, slices, funnels, treemaps and points on your dashboards; gauges and KPI cards don’t click through.

What is a drill down dashboard?
A dashboard where clicking a summary number takes you to the detail behind it. In Adoptiv, a click opens a detail board already filtered to the value you clicked.
Drill down vs drill through: what’s the difference?
Drill down usually means going a level deeper in the same report. Drill-through means jumping to another report, carrying the value you clicked. Adoptiv’s jump is drill-through: it opens a different board, filtered.
Which charts can I click through?
Any chart drawn one mark per row: bars, columns, slices, funnel bands, treemap tiles and points. Gauges and KPI cards don’t click through.
Does it work with cross-filtering?
Yes, on different tiles. If one tile has both set up, the jump to the detail board wins and the board you left stays as it was.
Who sets where a click goes?
The jump is part of the tile’s setup: a destination board, and the field that receives the value. You just click.
What does the click carry?
One value, the one under your pointer, as an exact match.
Where does the click land?
On your workspace’s copy of the destination board, filtered to the value you clicked before it first appears on screen.
Can the detail board send me back?
The detail board doesn’t record where a click came from, so it has no link back of its own.
