Embedded Widgets

A figure that lives on the screen where the work happens, instead of on a board somebody has to remember to open. Build it once, and everyone who opens that screen sees it worked out against their own records.

A figure that lives on the billing screen

1 definition, every workspace
Slot
billing.wallet_topups2 to 64 lowercase · dots or underscores between segments · unique platform-wide
Three workspaces open the same screen
How it stays current
  • Defaulta poll every 60 seconds
  • Marked liveevery 5 seconds
  • Tab in the backgroundpaused entirely
  • Hover refreshskips the cache and reseeds it
What the endpoint asks the definition for
  • calculation
  • modules
  • dateFilter
  • filters
  • groupBy
  • tableColumns
  • rowLimit
  • gaugeTarget
  • cacheTtlSec
  • isRealtime
  • name
  • tooltip
  • iconKey
What it never asks for
  • chartVisual
  • visualConfig
  • themeSetId
  • additionalCalculations
  • pivotConfig
  • crossFilterEmits
  • drillThroughTargetDashboardId
So the tile always draws plain

The default renderer for its shape, in default colors. A series tile plots its first measure alone and a table tile can never become a grid, because the extra measures and the pivot settings are not read either. No click emission, no hop to another board.

Where it renders
a component in the signed-in productiframescript tagthird-party host
Cached against the widget's own window, keyed by workspace and by a version counter every record write bumps · a window of zero disables it
The screen asks for a name and does not know or care which widget carries it. That indirection is the whole contract: the call site is a string, and the operator owns what the string resolves to.

Product figures from the platform’s own defaults - not customer averages

The mechanism

How it works.

01

Name the spot, and one widget answers it

Lowercase letters and digits joined by dots or underscores, two to sixty-four characters, unique platform-wide. The screen asks for a slot by name. Whichever widget carries that name answers, and swapping which widget answers is a rename rather than a code change.

02

One tile, and no copies of it to drift

The definition stays on the platform side and is executed against the connection of whoever asked. One authored definition serves every workspace, and none of them holds a copy that can drift from it.

03

Anyone signed in can see it, so pick the figure carefully

Any signed-in member may render any slot. There is no board permission to check, because the definition is the operator's and the records are already fenced by whose session is asking. That is the trade being made and it is worth knowing before a sensitive figure is published to one.

04

It moves while you are looking at it

A poll every minute, or every five seconds when the definition is marked live, paused entirely while the tab is in the background. A hover button forces a pass that skips the cache and reseeds it.

Where it sits

One moment in every number.

Every number passes through the same seven. Embedded Widgets is the lit one, and everything either side of it is a different page in this category.

  1. 01
    Query

what is asked, and of what

  2. 02
    Shape

    the measure and the dimension

  3. 03

the visual chosen for that shape

  4. 04

where it sits on a dashboard

  5. 05
    Filter

    narrowing it after the fact

  6. 06

8 facts
Slot
Two to sixty-four lowercase characters with dots or underscores between segments
Uniqueness
One definition per slot, across the whole platform
Where it renders
Inside the signed-in product, as a component against a session-scoped endpoint. It is not an iframe, a script tag or anything a third-party site can host
Presentation
The chosen renderer, the palette and the presentation settings travel with the definition, so a slot draws the tile as it was authored
Shape limits
Extra measures and pivot settings travel too, so a series tile plots all of its measures and a table tile can be a grid
Interaction
No click emission and no hop to another board
Caching
The widget's own window, keyed by workspace and by a version counter every record write bumps. A window of zero disables it
Not the same as
Dashboard Sharing, which hands over a whole board to people who already have accounts

More in Reporting & Analytics

12 capabilities

Seven data shapes, twenty-two visuals, shareable without a login.

Chart Visuals

Nobody builds a chart that misreads its own numbers, or finds that out on the wallboard. Columns, funnels, treemaps, radar, scatter, gauges and pivots.

Dashboards

The board a team opens on holds the figures that team is judged by, not everybody's. Six columns to lay them out in, and your own tab opens first.

Cross-Filtering

Click the bar for one queue and the rest of the board goes with it. The next question gets asked by pointing at the answer, and undone by clicking again.

Drill-Through

Some answers will not fit on the board that raised the question. A click leaves carrying the value it stood on, and lands on a board already narrowed to it.

Pivot Tables

Agents down the side, weeks across the top, and the number you care about in every cell. The shape finance asks for when a chart will not settle the argument.

Conditional Formatting

A board on the wall gets read from across the room. Anything under target colors itself as the chart is painted, so a supervisor sees it without stopping.

Reference Lines

The number that was promised, drawn across the same chart as the number that arrived, so the floor reads itself against its target, not yesterday's bars.

Comparison Periods

Nobody has to remember what last week looked like, or dig out the sheet it was written on. The same figure is counted again over the window before it.

Filter Trees

The report that needs two exceptions and a date range stays one widget, instead of three tiles that nearly agree. Seventeen operators in a nested and-or tree.

Bucketing & Grouping

Ten thousand plus never turns up before two hundred on a board the floor is watching. Group by day through year, by equal bands, or by breakpoints you set.

Theme Sets

Six palettes, one a print set for the pack that goes in front of a client. Pin one to a tile and the series, axis, grid and tooltip all move together.

Call Analytics

How many calls, how many answered, how long they ran, how many missed, counted off the records the switch already wrote. Not a sample or last night's export.
